Virtual Career Fair- Veterans in STEM Programs

The Office of Veteran Services and the National Laboratories Office of the Texas A&M University System are co-hosting this unique, Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) virtual career fair aimed at veterans in all disciplines. This 2-part event will begin with a virtual panel session featuring technical representatives from multiple NSE labs, plants and sites. Following the panel, students will continue with 1:1 video chats with representatives.

The Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) is made up of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and its labs, plants and sites. NNSA is responsible for:

  • Enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science
  • Maintaining and enhancing the safety, security and effectiveness of our nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile
  • Reducing global danger from weapons of mass destruction
  • Providing the U.S. Navy with safe and effective nuclear propulsion
  • Responding to nuclear and radiological emergencies in the United States and abroad

 Many positions within the NSE require a security clearance as a condition of employment. A security clearance requires U.S. citizenship. Limited opportunities are available for non-U.S. citizens.

NSE Panelist for part 1 of the career fair include:

  • Moderator: Shaun Stephenson, Veteran/Military Outreach Strategic Program Manager, Training and Qualification FAM, Strategic Human Resource Management Directorate, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
    • Shaun has a BS in Economics from the United States Naval Academy and currently has responsibility as the Program Manager for leading the Strategic Outreach and Recruiting Military/Veterans Program and Training Functional Area in the Strategic Human Resource Management Directorate at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He has 27 years’ experience in Special Operations, Infantry, Light Armored Reconnaissance, Supply Chain, Warehousing, Safety, Training, Organizational Development and Education. He has worked for the United States Marine Corps, Ernest and Julio Gallo Winery and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.  He speaks, teaches, coaches and facilitates in numerous industry environments to include educational institutions, private and public companies, athletic teams/organizations, individual mentoring, and youth community-based organizations in both character and leadership development.  He consults with StoryRock Inc. seeking essential funding for commemorative book and documentary distribution recognizing Korean, Vietnam, and Gulf War Veterans.
  • Panelist 1: Jeremy Best, Program Manager, Office of Nuclear and Military Affairs, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL)
    • Jeremy started his military career in 1996 as a Marine enlisted band member playing French Horn in New Orleans.  He was accepted to the commissioning program MECEP (Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program), and proceeded to the University of Oklahoma from 2000-2004.  After earning a BS in Aerospace Engineering and commissioning as a 2nd Lt in 2004, Jeremy was assigned as a Manpower Officer (Adjutant) and directed to Camp Lejeune, NC where he served with 3rd Battalion 10th Marines (Artillery) and 3rd Battalion 2nd Marines (Infantry). Following a combat deployment with 3/2 to Al Qa’im, Iraq in the Al Anbar Province from 2007-2008 he went to a recruiting headquarters, 4th Marine Corps District in Harrisburg, PA. He was accepted to the Master’s program and sent to AFIT at WPAFB, OH.  Graduating with GNE-13 with a Masters in Nuclear Engineering, he was subsequently assigned as a Physics Professor at the United States Naval Academy from 2013-2016.  Jeremy Retired from 20 years in the Marine Corps in 2016 at the rank of Major and is now serving in the Office of Nuclear and Military Affairs at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
  • Panelist 2: Jimmy Carrillo, Deputy Director of Weapons Operations, CNS Pantex Plant
    • Jimmy has been with Pantex for over twenty years and has been involved with multiple nuclear weapons programs and processes during his career.  Jimmy served four years in the United States Army as an M1A1 Crewmember prior to hiring on as a Production Technician from 2000-2006 on the W88 and W76.  From there, Jimmy was a Production Section Manger from 2006-2016, where he managed day to day activities for multiple Nuclear Weapon Programs. Jimmy became a Senior Manager in 2016, which involved managing a department that contained multiple weapon programs and also spent time managing the Special Nuclear Materials Department. Jimmy was promoted to Director after three years, where he continued to serve as a Department manager over multiple areas. In February of 2020 Jimmy became the Deputy Director of Weapons Operations Division for the Pantex Plant.  Jimmy currently holds an Associates of Science degree from Amarillo College
  • Panelist 3: Allison M. Ellerson, Explosives Training Manager, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)
    • Allison graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering. She is currently the Explosives Training Manager in the Weapons and Complex Integration at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She also is working towards a Master’s Certificate in Explosives Engineering from Missouri S&T. While in the Army, Allison served as an Engineer Officer. She held positions as the Battalion S1, Sapper Platoon Leader, and Brigade Adjutant. Allison breadth of experience refined her into into a resourceful, successful leader focused on the mission and the wellbeing of the people around her.
  • Panelist 4: Eric P. Richardson, Deputy Facility Manager, Savannah River Tritium Enterprise, Savannah River Site (SRS)
    • Eric is a dedicated father of six children, who he raises with his high school sweetheart and wife of 17 years, Jessica. Together, they traveled around the country through numerous duty stations during Eric’s 12 years in the United States Navy. Starting as a Nuclear Machinist Mate, he progressed through a commissioning program and earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University. He served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer and completed two CENTCOM deployments prior to his last duty station as the Staff Training Officer at the Nuclear Propulsion Training Unit. He transitioned out of the military and joined the team at the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise as the Training Manager. After three years, he returned to his Operational roots as the Deputy Facility Manager of the Tritium Processing Facility where he currently works. He has continued to expand his capabilities while working at the Savannah River Site by earning his Project Management Professional certification and pursuing a master’s degree in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University. Outside of work, Eric and his family volunteer to help provide school supplies and Christmas gifts to 500+ children in the Aiken/Augusta area and feed the less fortunate members of the community.
  • Panelist 5: Cynthia M. Ellis, Principal Emergency Response Specialist, Nevada National Security Site (NNSS)
    • Cynthia is a 20 year Air Force Veteran and is currently working as a Principle Emergency Response Specialist at Mission Support and Test Systems.  She initially entered the Air Force as Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Maintainer.  She worked in Scheduling, Supply and Quality Assurance while stationed at F.E. Warren and Vandenberg Air Force Bases.  After 10 years in maintenance, she cross trained into the Sensor Operator career field working on Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.  She worked in Air Combat Command as well as Special Operations Command.  She has deployed overseas with the MQ-1 and MQ-9 family aircraft.  Before retiring from active duty she applied for and was approved to participate in the DoD Skillbridge Program and landed a fellowship with MSTS through Hiring Our Heroes.  The fellowship with Hiring Our Heroes helped her secure a full-time position with MSTS.
