Nuclear Weapons and American Grand Strategy – The Academy will take place July 12-16 2021 at Johns Hopkins SAIS Washington DC (if travel is restricted, the course will be virtual). The course, Nuclear Weapons and American Grand Strategy, aims to provide an emerging generation of thought-leaders and policymakers with the tools to understand our nuclear past and future. It is available at no cost to exceptional applicants, and we will cover all expenses for participants. Students must either be a current undergraduate or have received their undergrad degree no earlier than January 2018 to apply. More info here.
An eight-week extended research internship hosted by the Nuclear Science and Security Consortium (NSSC) and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The program provides a survey of the national laboratory activities and mission space, focused research projects with a strong connection to nonproliferation science and technology, and a companion symposium series linking nuclear security science, technology, and policy.
- Designed for students from the NSSC. Students should contact their faculty advisor or the NSSC Program Manager to express interest in the
program - A limited number of seats are available for students from outside the NSSC.
- Must be U.S. citizens enrolled in accredited full-time upper-level undergraduate or graduate programs in science & engineering or relevant fields.
- GPA must be above 3.2.
- Preference will be given to graduate-level students.
Nuclear and Radiochemistry Summer Schools
The Nuclear and Radiochemistry Summer Schools (NCSS) are INTENSIVE six-week programs for undergraduates. Fellowships include stipends, all tuition and fees, transportation to and from the Summer School location, housing, books, and laboratory supplies. Transferable college credit will be awarded through the ACS accredited chemistry programs at San Jose State University (7 units) or the State University of New York at Stony Brook (6 units). GW Boot Camp on Nuclear Security Policy
The 2021 Boot Camp will be held online from June 14-18, 2021. The Boot Camp is a unique, week-long course on all aspects of nuclear security policy. Most participants are graduate students (PhD and Masters) and/or early career professionals with a solid background in science and nuclear policy. Graduate students or early-career professionals with a passion for nuclear security policy are encouraged to apply.

An introduction to non-destructive assay (NDA) measurement techniques that are used for nuclear material accountancy by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or within a State’s System of Accounting and Control (SSAC). The course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of gamma-ray and neutron based detection. Takes place June 14-18, 2021. This is a highly competitive program, and preference will be given to attendees of the NSSC LANL Keepin Nonproliferation Science Summer Program
Public Policy and Nuclear Threats Boot Camp
The workshop hosted by the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation at UC San Diego, will be held from July 25 – August 4, 2021. The summer workshop-in-residence at UC San Diego aims to give participants the knowledge and analytic tools to contribute to the debate on future U.S. nuclear policy.
